It’s impossible not to have mixed emotions when presenting this book. Jay has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and in all likelihood this will be the last collection of his work that he will live to see. But we have been proud to publish Jay over these many years and are honored to be able to present this collection.
From his editor Beth Meacham:
“Last Plane to Heaven is a really strong retrospective collection of the best of Jay Lake’s short fiction—not all of it, just the best of it, pulled from across his entire career.
“I always knew that getting the cover right for this book was going to be tough; short story collections always are, and this one is extra hard, being Jay’s last collection. Plus the title…all the obvious covers are maudlin. So I am extra in love with what our genius art department has come up with, because it is so modern, graphic, and has such a sense of movement, upward and forward.”
The Last Plane to Heaven includes over thirty short stories by Jay Lake, and an introduction by Gene Wolfe. It will be available September 2014. The cover, designed by Peter Lutjen, was created using various pieces of stock art.
